Mission

The mission of the Associate of Applied Science Degree in the Care and Development of Young Children is to improve the quality of the early childhood learning environments in our region through exploratory, experiential and student-centered course offerings that produce highly qualified childhood educators.

Some goals for this program are:

To understand the Early Childhood Profession
To gain knowledge of growth and development of young children
To know developmentally appropriate practice in Early Childhood Education
To effectively work with young children and families

Program Description

The Associate of Applied Science in Care and Development of Young Children is designed as a degree program to meet the needs of those pursuing a career in early childhood development and the new guidelines established by the Louisiana Department of Education.The program includes a 240 hour supervised work experience in an approved early childhood setting.

In this program, there are a variety exit points that you may choose to take. They are:

 Associate of Applied Science in Care and Development of Young Children
 Certificate of Technical Studies (CTS) Care and Development of Young Children
 Technical Competency Area (TCA) Care and Development of Young Children
 Technical Competency Area (TCA) Childcare Administration


Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:
Promote child development and learning by supporting the diverse ways in which children learn
Build family and community relationships by valuing the diversity of individuals and creating respectful reciprocal relationships
Observe, document, and assess to support young children and families, plan curriculum, identify needs and deepen understanding of child development
Use effective strategies and approaches to design effective curriculum, and create environments that support and enrich learning and teaching
Become a professional by displaying positive leadership and practicing ethical standards in the classroom and community
