GED Program

About DeltaLINC

DeltaLINC is responsible for the administra-tion of Adult Education and/or Family Literacy programs under the fiscal auspices of Ouachita Parish School Board in the following parishes or districts: Bienville, Claiborne, East Carroll, Lincoln, Madison, Monroe City, Jackson, Ouachi-ta, Red River, Richland, and Union.

This program works in accord with the purpose of activities governed by the Adult and Family Literacy Act which is to:

  • Assist adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency
  • Assist adults who are parents to obtain the educational skills necessary to become full partners in the educational development of their children
  • Assist adults in the completion of a secondary school education

RUSH (Ready "Urself" for Success to Happen)

  • DeltaLINC holds managed enroll-ment once a month in compliance with the Work Ready U five-year plan. Stu-dents must pre-register in order to attend a day-long orientation at a later scheduled date.

Family Literacy

  • Adults and their children ages birth through seven qualify
  • Adult literacy instruction
  • Parenting instruction
  • Developmentally-appropriate early childhood education
  • Integration of all adult and child activi-ties and transfer to home

Adult Education

  • Instruction in fundamental skills in math, reading, writing, and the humanities
  • GED Preparation

ESL

  • Instruction for adults whose native language is not English to develop a functional ability to speak, read, and write English

Citizenship Education

  • Preparation for non-citizens to take United States citizenship exam
  • Assistance in gaining competencies in daily activities like banking and medical appointments

HEP (High School Equivalency Program)

  • Academic Advising

CAP (Credential Acceleration Program)

  • "Fast track" program for high-level and GED re-test students or GED "walk-in" students
  • Two to four week fast-paced, high-intensity class

Distance Education Opportunities

  • Online learning with scheduled class-room instruction
  • Flexible hours for students with non-traditional work schedules
  • GED Preparation, Adult Education, Computer Literacy

Correctional Education

  • Instruction in fundamental skills in math, reading, writing
  • GED testing on site

GED Testing

  • Schedule and administer the General Education Development diploma

Career LINC

  • GED preparation while simultaneously working toward certification in the Manufacturing or Allied Health fields:
    • Certified Manufacturing Specialist (CMS) – adult education integrated into the CMS content with Work-Keys certification with concurrent enrollment at Delta Community College
    • Patient Care Technician (PCT) – adult education integrated into the PCT content with certifications in CNA, EKG, and Phlebotomy with concurrent enrollment at Delta-Ouachita Technical College

Requirements for Pre-Registration

  • All students need a valid, government issued picture ID and a $10.00 money order made payable to OPSB
  • 16-17 year olds need a documented waiver approved by the administra-tion at Delta Eastgate and by the school board
  • 16-18 year olds need a drop slip from last public school attended
