Louisiana Delta Community College complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) to ensure equal opportunity for qualified individuals diagnosed with a learning, physical, or psychological disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
The Office of Student Counseling and Disability Services (located in Room 155 of the Student Service Suite in the Louisiana Purchase Building on the Monroe campus) is responsible for coordinating all policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities for each of Louisiana Delta Community College’s campuses. LA Delta students requesting reasonable accommodations must self-identify with this office in order to receive services. An intake appointment can be scheduled at the student’s selected campus by calling Student Counseling and Disability Services at (318) 345-9152 or emailing (sandradietle@LaDelta.edu ).
During this first meeting, students will complete an Application for Services Form and provide documentation of their disability (see Documentation Requirements section below). Each student’s request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that documentation guidelines have been met. If needed, additional documentation may be requested by the counselor.
Based on the documented needs and functional limitations of the student, appropriate accommodations will be identified by the counselor and the student. Students will complete a Semester Accommodation Request Form and will be informed of the policies and procedures they will need to follow in order to receive services.
Working with Instructors
After the initial meeting in which accommodations were established, Student Counseling and Disability Services will prepare a Disability Accommodations Notification letter outlining the accommodations for which the student has been approved. This letter will be emailed to the student’s LA Delta email address and it is the student’s responsibility to deliver a copy of the letter to their Instructors the first week of class or as soon as possible. Students are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with each Instructor during office hours to provide them with the letter and to discuss accommodation needs. If issues or problems arise during the planning stages of providing accommodations, the student and the Instructor must contact SC-DS staff immediately to resolve the problem.
Renewal of Services
Each semester, students must meet with Student Counseling and Disability Services at the student’s selected campus to complete a Semester Accommodation Request Form. At this time, staff will review student progress to determine the success of prior accommodations and will make adjustments to the plan as needed.
