April 2, 2020 (Update)

Dear LDCC Faculty, Staff, and Students,

I hope this correspondence finds you all well and that you are continuing to practice social distancing as well as other measures that help to keep us all safe. To say these are unprecedented times seems so inadequate, but we must continue to be steadfast to halt the spread of this terrible disease.

There are a few reasons for this update. I’d like to remind everyone that summer registration opens today for veterans and Monday, April 6th for all other students. Summer online classes are scheduled to begin June 1st. There are many online offerings and you are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure your choice preference.

Spring Break will be maintained as scheduled for April 13-17th.  With a few exceptions for our healthcare students who are working diligently to complete their studies so they can lend a hand on the frontlines of this current health emergency, there will be no regularly scheduled classes that week.  I’d encourage each of you to use this time to either recharge, catch up on coursework or even get ahead so that we finish the semester strong.  All other LDCC college operations will continue during that week.  So, if assistance is needed, we remain available to help.

In addition, I want to remind everyone that the previously scheduled May graduation ceremony has been postponed due to the health emergency. However, we’ll be making a decision as soon as possible regarding the rescheduling of the event to ensure that we properly celebrate the tremendous achievements of our students and faculty.

Lastly, I know that this unprecedented event has created significant disruptions to the lives of many of our students, faculty, staff and their families. We’ve listed many resources in the “Covid-19 Student Resources” tab. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to look, please do.

Thank you again for the tremendous work you have all been doing. Please keep up the good work and be safe!

Testing is available through the end of next week at Cajun Field at the University of Louisiana, the Lake Charles Civic Center and the Rapides Parish Exhibition Center in Alexandria.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced today that he will extend his Phase Two order, including the statewide mask mandate, closure of bars to on-site consumption and crowd size limits of no more than 50 people for at least another 21 days.

Mobile testing sites in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes will be open from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. from Monday, August 3 to Friday, August 7.
