West Monroe Campus Barber Styling students

LDCC’s Barber styling program is offered on the West Campus. Students develop skills through experience in a school-based, on-site shop equipped and managed according to industry standards by the students with instructor supervision. Upon completion of this program, which is approved by the LA State Board of Barber Examiners and meets the 1500-hour requirement, students are eligible to take the LA State Board of Barber Examiners licensure examination.

Tracie Carroll Blackstock is the instructor and has been for the last 12 years. “I believe in quality education in and out of the classroom,” comments Blackstock. “It makes for a rich learning experience for the students to come out into the public and volunteer their services.”

This year the students have worked with Goodwill and the Food Bank in providing free haircuts to citizens at the area’s recreational centers. “We are also looking to expand volunteer opportunities to other venues,” says Blackstock. “This summer, we’ll get to work with the Boys & Girls Club.”
