WEST MONROE, LA — Twenty-four students from Louisiana Delta Community College’s (LDCC) Electrician program have completed a valuable, hands-on learning opportunity with industry partner Wye Electric. The group worked onsite in St. Francisville, Louisiana, where they participated in an industrial property electrical shutdown. This experience offered students the chance to build critical skills in wiring, service panels, and other essential tasks required in the electrical trade, all while earning an hourly wage.
“This opportunity allows our students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and practice,” said LDCC Electrician Instructor and Program Lead Gerald Sepulvado. “They can also count this as significant experience on their resumes, setting them up for success in a high-demand, high-wage career.”
Wye Electric, a long-standing partner of LDCC, provided transportation, room and board, and hourly wages for the participating students, reflecting their commitment to developing the next generation of skilled electricians. Many LDCC students have gone on to secure full-time positions with Wye Electric after gaining on-the-job experience through projects like this one.
“At Wye Electric, we believe in investing in the future of our industry by supporting emerging talent,” said Wye Electric Vice President Douglas Williams. “Working alongside seasoned professionals in the field gives students a competitive edge as they prepare to enter the workforce.”
The participating students range from first-semester newcomers to fourth-semester students, all gaining critical field experience to boost their employability upon graduation. This project is one of the largest groups of LDCC students to assist on an industry project in recent years, demonstrating the strength of the program’s commitment to hands-on learning and workforce development.
