The program is currently seeking accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Once the program has achieved “serious applicant” status, students will be eligible to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification exam.

Students enrolled in the medical lab technician program at LDCC will be eligible for the phlebotomy and medical lab assistant certificate of technical studies after two semesters. This certificate is a 27 credit hour that allows students to sit for both the phlebotomy and medical lab assistant national exams.
After these two semesters, students will be eligible to take two nationally recognized exams and begin working immediately as a certified medical laboratory assistant (CMLA) or certified phlebotomy technician (CPT). The certified medical laboratory assistant certification is offered by the American medical technologists (AMT) and the certified phlebotomy technician certification is offered by the national health career association (NHA).

The Medical Lab Technician Program is approved by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) to fully prepare students for the Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant Exam.
